Every CIDA student is on a heavily subsidised scholarship. 70% of students are on a full scholarship, including housing and food allowance. But for the students to fully appreciate their education they all contribute financially towards tuition: Student Contribution is R150 total a month over 11 months: R30 a month to Student Representative Council; R40 a month to the Hardship Fund; R80 a month to CIDA for Administration. Although it may not sound like much, this is a huge amount of money for students to find. Many come to CIDA with no more than the clothes on their backs. Students also help to run the campus by dedicating a minimum of five hours of their time each week. At the end of the course, rather than paying back a loan, students are encouraged to "pay it forward" by committing to funding another student from their hometown after they graduate and become employed.
