S'thembile Maduna
About myself
I’m S’thembile Maduna from rural areas of KwaZulu Natal. I’m 19 years old.
I’m currently doing first year in Bachelor of Business Administration and ICT at CIDA City Campus.
My hobbies are singing, Zulu traditional dance, chilling with my friends and meeting new people. But my favorite hobby is to spend time with my family.
I’m from a family made up of my father, 4 mothers and 18 children. It is a very huge family and it is not always nice because sometimes you find that you need something but you can’t get it because others will want it. To live in such a kind of family needs you to be strong and that is one of my characteristics.
I am a very strong person. I have gone through so many difficulties but because of the fact that I have my goal and objectives I’m still going strong. This is the thing that keeps me going actually. It
gives me strength to carry on. I really believe in myself and there is no other person I can trust more than myself.

Friends

Back from left to right: Nondumiso, Phindile, Fezile, Nozipho. Front from left to right: Phumzile, Nonhlanhla (a.k.a Nhlanhla)
How did we meet?
I, Nondumiso and Fezile are from the same place. We have known each other from 1993 in primary school. We came to CIDA last year (2005) and we were enrolled at CIDA Foundation College. A day after our arrival at CIDA Park, Nhlanhla arrived and she was our roommate. Then other friends we just met and I don’t know how.
What makes them good friends?
I usually call them “FAMILY” and really they have shown that they are part of my family, part of my life. They have been with me through good and bad times. I want to indicate that each of them supports me in a different way.
Fezile, she behaves like a mother with kids since she is the eldest of us all in the room. She is the one who usually sees if something is not right and she is full of advice.
Nondumiso is a very funny person. She likes to eat but she doesn’t get fat. In other words she is the smallest of us all. She is so bossy. Nhlanhla likes talking and laughing. Phindile also like laughing and the bad thing about her is that she always predicts with the weather.
Phumzile is a very inspiring person; she likes studying and pretends to be a shy person.
Nozipho likes to sleep very much and she also likes to laugh.

Choir
This is the activity I joined from the day I came to CIDA. Actually I have been a chorister since 1995 while I was doing standard 2 (GRADE 4). I like choral music more than any music that exists in this world. Music is my life and I can’t imagine going through a single day without singing.
I would like to start my own choir in my community. The reason behind this is the fact that many people from my community are not exposed to things that can help them discover their purpose of living.
Many people in my community are just staying in their homes because they don’t know what to do and they end up doing drugs, alcohol and many things that can destroy their lives.

My advice
To other people my advice would be STUDY HARD AND DON’T FORGET THAT YOUR FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS.
